Sweden – An elderly woman misunderstood instructions while checking in at Sweden’s main airport and was whisked down a baggage shoot after she placed herself instead of her luggage on the belt, media reported Wednesday. The 78-year-old woman, who was not named, was preparing to fly from Stockholm’s Arlanda airport to Germany on Tuesday when she lay down on an unmanned baggage belt in the belief she was following check-in instructions, the Upsala Nya Tidning local daily reported on its website. But she’s glad she did it — and so is the mother of 1-year-old Rowan Santos. “I didn’t want to scare her,” Robb told TODAY co-host Meredith Vieira from London on Thursday. “But then I weighed out the options. Sweden – Ten thousand copies of a food magazine were recalled in Sweden after a mistake in one of its recipes left four people poisoned, the magazine said Thursday. “There was a mistake in a recipe for apple cake. Instead of calling for two pinches of nutmeg it said 20 nutmeg nuts were needed,” Matmagasinet’s chief editor Ulla Cocke told AFP. “We know that four adults ate one cake made from this recipe, and they didn’t feel well,” she said, adding that “this is obviously very regrettable.” More… Magazine LaneDiscount Cigarettes & TobaccoNutty News MarketplaceDutch Gardens

California – It is a frustrating experience familiar to us all: an irritating, buzzing housefly that easily avoids our best attempts to swat it. The perfect swatting strategy, however, has now been revealed by scientists who have identified why the insects are so good at evading rolled-up newspapers – and how they might be outwitted. The right approach is to aim not at the insects themselves because they are extraordinarily good at anticipating where exactly your blow will land. “It is best to aim a bit forward of the fly’s starting position, to anticipate where it is going to jump when it first sees your swatter,” said Michael Dickinson, of the California Institute of Technology, who led the study. Her fiancé Craig Stevens, 26, rushed her to hospital, where X-rays showed it was pointing down into her stomach. But medics told Rebecca to avoid surgery and let nature take its course. The personal assistant went home — but returned the next day after collapsing in agony. More… Magazine LaneDiscount Cigarettes & TobaccoNutty News MarketplaceFrederick’s of Hollywood

Wellesley College – A 1921 painting by the French cubist Fernand Leger is missing from the Davis Museum and Cultural Center at Wellesley College, and the painting might have been stolen or accidentally thrown out with some crates, The Boston Globe reports today. The museum lent the painting, “Woman and Child,” to the Oklahoma City Museum of Art for an exhibit there through April 2007, the newspaper reports. NEW YORK – If legislation passes to give the Food and Drug Administration the authority the regulate the tobacco industry, it could reshape the industry’s competitive landscape, Fitch Ratings said in a new report Thursday. The U.S. House overwhelmingly passed the legislation in July, but it requires approval by the Senate and President Bush. Bush’s administration has said he will veto the bill. The bill would empower federal public health authorities to regulate tobacco for the first time. Fitch said it does not expect the law to be put into practice this year but said that if a Democrat is elected to the White House, the eventual passage of the bill is “highly probable.” More… Nutty NewsCigarettes America Front Page News

Washington – Politics can be treacherous. But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi walked on even riskier ground in a recent TV interview when she attempted a theological defense of her support for abortion rights. Roman Catholic bishops consider her arguments on St. Augustine and free will so far out of line with church teaching that they have issued a steady stream of statements to correct her. The latest came Wednesday from Pittsburgh Bishop David Zubik, who said Pelosi, D-Calif., “stepped out of her political role and completely misrepresented the teaching of the Catholic Church in regard to abortion.” More… Magazine LaneDiscount Cigarettes & TobaccoNutty News MarketplaceSky Mall
