In May 2006, six months after 24 people were killed in a small Iraqi town, U.S. Rep. John Murtha made a startling accusation. American soldiers, he contended, had killed innocent civilians “in cold blood.” Now, less than six weeks before the longtime Johnstown Democrat is up for re-election, a Marine involved in the now-infamous Haditha incident is suing Murtha for slander. Justin Sharratt of Canonsburg, Washington County, left the Marine Corps last year. But he claims Murtha’s statements have caused “permanent, irreversible damage to his reputation.” More… Magazine LaneDiscount Cigarettes & TobaccoNutty News MarketplaceSea of Diamonds

LAREDO, Texas — The trial of a man accused of executing a teen who broke into his home with friends looking for snacks has many in this border city outraged. Not because of the crime, but because the man is facing a murder charge. In a state where the right to use deadly force to protect one’s life and property is sacrosanct and frontier justice is still sometimes the norm — particularly on the violence-plagued Texas-Mexico border — prosecutors have to explain the decision to try Jose Luis Gonzalez. OMAHA, Nebraska – Eleven children ranging in age from 1 to 17 were left at hospitals Wednesday under Nebraska’s unique safe haven law, which allows caregivers to abandon youngsters as old as 19 without fear of prosecution. Nine of the children came from one family. The six boys and three girls were left by their father, who was not identified, at Creighton University Medical Center’s emergency room. Unrelated boys ages 11 and 15 also were surrendered Wednesday at Immanuel Medical Center. The law, which went into effect in July, initially was intended to protect infants. In a compromise with senators worried about arbitrary age limits, the measure was expanded to include the word “child,” which wasn’t defined. Some have interpreted this to mean anyone under the age of 19. More… Magazine LaneDiscount Cigarettes & TobaccoNutty News MarketplaceNetflix

A young cancer patient is putting out a call for help after someone broke into his family’s home and stole his brand new puppy.

Ryan Morgan was first diagnosed with neuroblastoma four years ago, and he has been fighting his cancer on-and-off ever since. Ryan turned 10 in July, and his parents gave him a miniature dachshund for his birthday to help him keep his spirits up. “Whenever I went to the hospital or something, I would always think of her, and it would make me happier,” he said. “I really like her.
