RALEIGH, North Carolina – Larry Whitfield was on foot, his getaway car wrecked, his rookie attempt at robbing a bank thwarted by a set of locked doors, according to detectives. Looking for a place to hide, police say, he found himself inside the home of a frightened old woman.
There’s no evidence Whitfield ever touched 79-year-old Mary Parnell. Authorities say he even told the grandmother of five he didn’t want to hurt her, directing her to sit in a chair in her bedroom. Someone dies while a crime is being committed, that is murder.

    Only in some states.

Honestly, I would not convict him of murder. This woman was a ticking time-bomb of fatal conditions.

I'd get him for B&E, and Commission of a Crime using a Firearm. But I would not, were I sitting on that jury, put him away for murder based off of the argument that an overweight, diabetic with heart disease, kidney disease, an enlarged heart and hypertension had a heart attack because of him. It was only a matter of time before she had a heart attack.

I don't see him going to prison for life based on these charges, because it only takes one person with a shadow of a doubt and the courage to stand up to a jury (which I've had to do) to not convict him for murder.
