Woman’s Perfume Makes 150 Sick

perfumeFORT WORTH, Texas -    At first, fire officials suspected that carbon monoxide or some other poisonous fumes might have sickened almost 150 people at a Fort Worth bank call center. They learned someone’s perfume was to blame.  34 people were taken to hospitals, 12 by ambulance, after reporting dizziness and shortness of breath at the Bank of America call center. She said another 110 were treated at the scene and released.  More…

bagsUK -  The body of an elderly shopaholic was found underneath a pile of clothing and other items after she died of natural causes, an inquest heard. Joan Cunnane’s bungalow was so crammed with purchases it took five visits to the house before she was found. She had refused to let her friends into the house in Heaton Mersey, Stockport Magistrates’ Court was told. More…

face1An untold number of Facebook’s more than 200 million users have been feverishly forwarding instructions in the past week on how to opt out of being the social networking Web site’s corporate pitchman, following warnings that third-party advertisers were creating advertisements with users’ profile photos without permission. coffinCalifornia -  More than a month after Michael Jackson’s sudden death, the whereabouts of his body remain unclear. The King of Pop’s gold-plated, rose-covered casket was last seen at his public memorial service on July 7 at the Staples Center  in Los Angeles. After the service, it was driven away to parts unknown. Reports have placed Jackson’s body  in an above-ground white marble crypt that is owned by Motown Records founder Berry Gordy at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Hollywood Hills.  More…

US border station takes down sign that says “United States”

customsUSA – A handsome, welcoming new border crossing has had its 21-foot-high yellow “United States” letters scrapped because  border people are afraid that the words “United States” will serve as an irresistible temptation for terrorists. Less than a month after the station opened, workers began prying the big yellow letters off the building’s facade on orders from Customs and Border Protection. pins1Pittsburg – Six months after graduating with her bachelor’s degree, Marjorie Dillon is making $7.25 an hour plus tips serving beer at a bowling alley, working 25 to 30 hours a week. She is nearly $120,000 in debt, behind on her bills and, despite her best efforts, cannot find a better job. akaIllinois -  Members of a prominent Chicago-based sorority are suing to oust their national president, Barbara McKinzie, saying she misappropriated funds and commissioned a $900,000 wax figure of herself. Sultan Al-Sayed claimed he had toothache and was simply putting his cheek to the floor to ease the pain. M&M’s Dye May Treat Spinal Cord Injuries

blueUniversity of Rochester Medical Center  -  A common and safe blue food dye might provide the best treatment available so far for spinal cord injuries. Tests in rats showed the dye, called brilliant blue G, a close relative of the common food dye Blue no. 1, crossed into the spinal fluid and helped block inflammation, Maiken Nedergaard of the University of Rochester Medical Center and colleagues reported.  More…
