Fathers entitled to breastfeeding leave

courtNutty News Europe – Europe’s top court has declared that working fathers in Spain are entitled to take breastfeeding leave everyday, even if the mother of the child is not employed. The new legislation means that both the mother and father are allowed to leave work for an hour during the day or reduce their working day by half an hour during the first nine months following the birth of a child. The European Union Court of Justice in Luxembourg ruled that the Spanish law caused an unjustified discrimination on grounds of sex because fathers do not have the same rights as mothers.  More…

Judge hands out condoms hidden in acorns

acornNutty News Intercourse, Pennsylvania – Police said a district judge from Intercourse, Pa., hid condoms inside acorns and handed them out to women in the state Capitol complex last week. A summary charge of disorderly conduct was filed against Isaac H. Stoltzfus, who presides over low-level cases as a district judge in Lancaster County. The 58-year-old jurist gave the acorns to unsuspecting women, who were offended when they discovered the contents.  More…

New York to replace 250,000 street signs, cost $27.5 million

wallNutty News New York City – New York officials said it will cost about $27.5 million to replace all of the city’s street signs to conform to national standards. The New York City Department of Transportation said the signs, which feature street names in all capital letters, will be replaced with signs featuring both capital and lower-case letters and they will be printed in a font called Clearview.  More…

fromm1Nutty News Florida – Louie Fromm, an assistant coach for the Holmes County Pee Wee Football Association, formally requested that the Vernon, Fla., City Council end the league’s traditional 50-yard-line pregame prayer ritual, alleging that his and his son’s First Amendmant rights are being violated. League officials say they are a private organization that takes no government money, and the city has no right to prevent them from saying prayers on the field before games. But Fromm says the league may be private, but the field on which it plays its games isn’t. It’s public property, Fromm says, and the city must order the pregame prayers to stop.  More…

clipWashington DC – The Consumer Product Safety Commission has been mired for weeks in deliberation as it writes guidelines on what makes a product a children’s product – and consequently which products would have to undergo more stringent safety testing as part of a 2008 law. Caught up in the debate are the classroom science kits and some of the items they contain, such as paper clips to show kids how magnets work. Science kit makers asked for a testing exemption for the paper clips and other materials. The commission declined.   More…

Leaving work late the night of March 11, the car’s owner reported finding Purifoy in the back seat of his Honda Civic, pulling up his underwear. “This is your car?” Purifoy said before bolting the scene, according to documents filed in court. “I thought this was Desiree’s car.”  More…

Man dies after downing a pint of vodka in four seconds

pint-of-vodkaNutty News UK – Richard Davies, 29, from Thornaby, near Stockton, had been drinking with friends before the alcohol knocked him unconscious. Mr Davies was found not breathing in a pool of his own blood, and died hours later. Recording a verdict of misadventure, Teesside coroner Tony Eastwood said the alcohol in his system had killed him. In a statement read out by deputy Teesside coroner Tony Eastwood, he said: “Richard drank a pint of vodka in four seconds or so.”  More…

Chen Shi, 16, died two days after enrolling in Beiteng School in Changsha, capital of central China’s Hunan province, having been beaten up when he refused to run during training. According to witnesses, an instructor — helped by two others — beat him with a plastic pipe, handcuffs and a wooden baton when he refused to run.  More…

Vegas Hotel Pool ‘Death Ray’ Burns Tourists

vdara-hotelNutty News Las Vegas – Guests at the new Vdara hotel have been complaining that because of an architectural flaw on the glass skyscraper, the sun’s rays are being magnified and reflected onto an area of the pool, causing severe burns. There have been reports that even plastic has melted from the heat. When hotel employees were ased about it, they’re kind of giggling and say: Yeah, we know. We call it the death ray.  They said it even melts plastic cups. A plastic Vdara bag holding a newspaper was also burned through by the sun.  More…
