johnNew Jersey – On his fourth day of a new kindergarten, a five-year-old autistic boy was denied his lunch because of an ‘outstanding bill.’

John Robert Caravella was refused a two dollar meal because his parents had unwittingly not paid their son’s lunch account.

Refused his lunch, the New Jersey youngster simply sat in Cliffwood Elementary School’s cafeteria and watched his classmates eat.

When John Robert came home at 4pm, his parents were outraged to discover that he had only had a bag of mini muffins since he left at 8.45am, which they had given him as a snack.

  1. A Mother Says:

Couldn’t someone there – teacher, administrator, janitor – pay the damn two dollars so the poor kid could eat. This makes me furious!

  2. Roger Says:

Another case of stupid so called educators.

  3. Mavis Says:

I would have paid the $2 if I had been there. This is just cruel and somebody should lose their job.

  4. Anonymous Says:

Why does everyone think it’s the school’s, society’s, or the government’s responsibility to take care of kids. Its the parents responsibility to see that their children are fed and the bills are paid.

  5. Cop Says:

    This is child abuse.

  6. Edward Says:

No matter how irresponsible the parents are, no child should be treated like this. Take it up with the parents. It is not the child’s fault.

  7. Gramps Says:

This really pisses me off. The parents could have made an honest mistake or not. But if that was my grandchild I would be hopping mad.

  8. Willie Says:

Just thinking about that poor kid sitting there eating a snack while his classmates ate lunch makes me sick.

  9. Yancy Says:

The school board needs to look into this and someone needs to be fired.

I have to agree with anon 11:29.

It’s my experience that schools hound you when your kid’s account is getting low so Mom & Dad KNEW the kid needed lunch money and CHOSE not to send it. End of story.
