trainNew York – A woman getting off a crowded rush hour train in Great Neck, L.I. fell through the gap, suffering minor injuries and suspending Long Island Rail Road service on the Port Washington line Thursday evening.

Photos show the unidentified woman lying on her back between the train and platform on the gravel next to the track, with her arms over her head as first responders scrambled to cut power to the electrified third rail, according to reports from the scene.

Ben Warshaw, 23, of Atlanta, told the Daily News he was jostled getting off the 5:11 p.m. train from Penn Station, overflowing with weekenders holding luggage as they came to Long Island for the July 4th holiday.

“It was a sea of people all getting off at the same time,” Warshaw said. “It was a rush hour train and there was pushing and shoving—nothing excessive—but that’s the LIRR for you.”  More
