flamesNeighbors are still in shock after hearing their neighbor allegedly set his girlfriend on fire after dousing her in gasoline.

According to The Carroll County Sheriff’s office, Robert Nethercutt set his girlfriend on fire on their property. Neighbors said she then ran over to her next door neighbor’s house to use this spigot to put out the fire.

Neighbor Kay Adcock said she didn’t hear any noises last night until the woman was outside trying to put out the flames on her body.

“She said it scorched her hair and stuff like that,” Adcock said. “She was complaining about her side really burning and was really hot but said the whole back side of that trailer is nothing but gas. ”

Nethercutt was arrested Wednesday night at a home on County Road North 95 East in Burrows. Carroll County Sheriff’s Deputies reported alcohol was believed to be a factor.

Mary Bounds considers Nethercutt as one of the family. She said she knows he has a problem.

“I know how he gets when he drinks too much,” said Nethercutt. “But being the Christian that I am, I’ve got to forgive him. I just have to forgive him and love him like he is.”

The woman has been released from Saint Joesph’s hospital in Kokomo.
