fingerA man is suing after he says one of his pinky fingers was caught in an airline armrest mechanism for nearly an hour during a flight to Los Angeles.

City News Service reports Stephen Keys has filed a lawsuit in Los Angeles Superior Court against both American Airlines Inc. and SkyWest Airlines Inc., alleging negligence.

A representative for American, which has a flying agreement with SkyWest, referred all comment to SkyWest, which said, “We worked with our partner American to reach out to Mr. Keys regarding his bruised finger and look forward to swiftly resolving this matter. Due to the ongoing litigation, we cannot comment further.”

The complaint says the injury to his finger left Keys unable to perform such previously routine tasks as driving and playing with his children. It says Keys experienced weeks of intense pain and severe emotional distress.

Woman’s diamond ring found in sewer 9 years after falling into toilet

ringA New Jersey woman was reunited with her diamond encrusted wedding band almost a decade after accidentally flushing it down her toilet.

Paula Stanton, 60, said she was cleaning her bathroom nine years ago when the gold ring, which her husband Michael Stanton had given her to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary, slipped off of her finger due to the cold weather causing her hands to shrink.

“It was heartbreaking,” she said. “I was embarrassed to tell my husband because it was meaningful.”

Stanton’s husband eventually bought her a replacement ring, but she still held on to the hope that she would find the original, asking Somers Point Public Works Department Crew Chief Ted Gogol two years ago if he’d ever spotted the ring during his work.

While Gogol initially answered no, the inquiry paid off when Stanton and her husband arrived home from a Thanksgiving trip and found a note on their door telling them to contact the public works department.

Much to her surprise, Gogol had found the missing ring while doing routine maintenance on a nearby sewer line.

“I was only in a manhole less than 400 feet away from their house when I saw something shiny sitting in the mud and debris. I realized it was a ring, and I remembered the woman who was looking for a ring,” he said.

The couple’s initials were inscribed on the inside of the ring, allowing Gogol to confirm it was Stanton’s and return it to her.

“He came by after work and dropped it off. Nobody could believe it. Everyone was in a state of shock. I was hugging him and crying,”

Stanton said.

turkeyA video recorded by a witness in a Wisconsin neighborhood shows an aggressive turkey chasing after a boy, until a driver managed to rescue the youth.

The video shows the turkey, dubbed Smoke by neighbors, chasing a boy through a Green Bay neighborhood until an SUV pulls between the bird and the boy.

“My first concern was that I didn’t want to see the kid run out in the road trying to get away from this and get hit by car,” the driver, Vanessa Miramontes, told WBAY-TV. “I instinctively turned in front of it.”

Miramontes said the situation was serious.

“As we got closer, you just saw this kids eyes completely bugged out and this turkey running full speed at this child,” Miramontes said. “I knew I had to do something to help in the slightest. No intentions were there to hit the turkey or hurt it by any means, but it was awfully close to the kid where I knew something needed to happen or it would hurt the kid.”

Another vehicle stopped and picked up the boy to give him a ride home.  Video

black59-year old John Paul Davis accused his wife, 56-year old Latoyah Johnson, of taking advantage of his handicap to “dishonestly and fraudulently make him believe that she was Caucasian”.

He claims that she knew that he would never have accepted to marry her if he “had known that she was black”, and consciously hid her origins from him for more than three decades.

Ms Johnson refutes her husband’s allegations of lying an abusing his confidence, saying that she made no effort to hide her skin color, and that she thought he had been aware of it during a those years.

Although Mr Davis’ allegations are unlikely to have any effect on the results of the divorce procedure, they have already generated a lot of reaction, both from the audience inside the courthouse and on the social media.

Some people simply noted that the couple, visibly had some communication problems, while others openly sided with Ms Johnson, calling her husband a “moron”, a “racist pig”, and many other colorful names.

This controversial case is scheduled to appear in court again on April 25, unless the parties reach an improbable agreement before that date.

potResidents of a Pennsylvania neighborhood called attention to a large pothole in their street by filling it with a Christmas tree.

Marietta Spak said she was going through the Christmas decorations in the attic of her Wilkes-Barre home when she found a faux-fir that seemed like a perfect fit for her neighborhood’s problematic pothole.

“I was upstairs in the attic and was looking for more Christmas decorations and thought that would look nice in the hole,” Spak told WNEP-TV.

Spak said she wanted to help drivers avoid the hole, which she said has been getting worse in recent days.

“It can cause so many problems with these holes. That’s not just a pothole. That’s sinkage, and it’s starting to spider web,” Spak said.

Photos of the festive pothole went viral on social media and the city Department of Public Works said it is scheduled to be fixed this week.

uberA tourist visiting Florida said his Uber Eats order came with an unwanted side — a pair of soiled underwear.

The man, identified only as Leo, said he was visiting Miami for Art Basel when he placed an Uber Eats order for food from a local Japanese restaurant.

Leo said his driver left in a hurry after he picked up his food outside the hotel.

“I grabbed the food and right when I got the food she took off running and I was like, ‘That was kind of odd,’” Leo told WPLG-TV.

He said the driver gave him a plastic bag that contained the paper bag of his food and a cloth item.

“I thought this, when I was pulling it out, this sure is a fancy napkin,” Leo said.

The man said he quickly discovered the item was a pair of thigh-length underwear stained with what appeared to be feces.

“Disgusting, unhealthful, it’s potentially deadly,” Leo said. “What do you do if you find this in your food?”

Uber said Leo was given a refund and the incident is under investigation.

“What’s been reported is very concerning. We are reviewing this order and reaching out to all parties involved to help understand what may have occurred. The courier has been removed from the app pending investigation,” Uber said in a statement.

Leo said the incident has also been reported to Bal Harbor police.

haircutA California high school teacher pleaded not guilty to several charges of child cruelty and battery after she allegedly forced a haircut on one of her students, authorities said.

Tulare County District Attorney Tim Ward said in a news release Friday that Margaret Gieszinger, 52, faces up to 3 years and 6 months in jail if convicted of all six counts.

Gieszinger pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released, said Stuart F. Anderson, a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.

In a video obtained by KFSN-TV, she is heard belting the “Star Spangled Banner” while cutting the boy’s hair and tossing chunks behind her. After cutting the boy’s hair, Gieszinger grabs at a girl’s long hair before the students make a run for it out of the classroom, the video shows.

This Chinese city is feeding garbage to a billion cockroaches to combat waste

Category: Nutty News

roachesIn the near pitch-dark, you can hear them before you see them – millions of cockroaches scuttling and fluttering across stacks of wooden boards as they devour food scraps by the tonne in a novel form of urban waste disposal.

The air is warm and humid – just as cockroaches like it – to ensure the colonies keep their health and voracious appetites.

Expanding Chinese cities are generating more food waste than they can accommodate in landfills, and cockroaches could be a way to get rid of hills of food scraps, providing nutritious food for livestock when the bugs eventually die and, some say, cures for stomach illness and beauty treatments.

On the outskirts of Jinan, capital of eastern Shandong province, a billion cockroaches are being fed with 50 tonnes of kitchen waste a day – the equivalent in weight to seven adult elephants.

The waste arrives before daybreak at the plant run by Shandong Qiaobin Agricultural Technology Co, where it is fed through pipes to cockroaches in their cells.

Shandong Qiaobin plans to set up three more such plants next year, aiming to process a third of the kitchen waste produced by Jinan, home to about seven million people.

A nationwide ban on using food waste as pig feed due to African swine fever outbreaks is also spurring the growth of the cockroach industry.

“Cockroaches are a bio-technological pathway for the converting and processing of kitchen waste,” said Liu Yusheng, president of Shandong Insect Industry Association.

Cockroaches are also a good source of protein for pigs and other livestock. “It’s like turning trash into resources,” said Shandong Qiaobin chairwoman Li Hongyi.
