Police punished after lovers fined for a hug on Valentine’s Day

BEIJING - China has punished three policemen for detaining and fining two young lovers 5,000 yuan ($660) for hugging in public on the Chinese version of Valentine’s Day.
The couple paused to embrace while taking a stroll along a river in Jinshi in the central province of Hunan, the Shanghai Daily said.

SUMMERVILLE SC - It was raining and lightning was popping when Greg Schneider went out to check the mail shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday.
That’s about all Schneider, 37, remembers after a lightning strike burned a 2-inch hole in his favorite Ducks Unlimited baseball cap.

Man gets back at police - rams police station with stolen bulldozer

CONCORD NH - A man who said he had been harassed by police in Troy stole a bulldozer and rammed the town police station early Friday, heavily damaging the building, police said.
“He hit it three times,” State Police Sgt. David Griffin said. “He took out the whole front, which included the main entrance to the police department.”

Aspen actor/director Kent Hudson Reed accidently cut his leg open with the knife he was using in an outdoor performance of “Scenes From Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar” on Wednesday.

New Delhi: India’s tobacco exports are likely to touch Rs16,050 million towards the end of current fiscal, from Rs15060.20 million in last fiscal, as growers get ready to export more than 60% of their produce in view of domestic tobacco’s rising demand in countries like Russia, Vietnam, UK, Germany and Belgium.

Japan Tobacco Inc., the world’s third-largest cigarette maker, will seek more takeovers from 2009 to build on the 7.5 billion pound ($15 billion) purchase of Gallaher Group Plc, President Hiroshi Kimura said.
Further acquisitions “would be realistic from 2009,” Kimura said in an Aug. 29 interview. The integration of the British maker of Benson & Hedges cigarettes, purchased in April, will be completed in two years, he said.
Kimura, 54, is seeking to expand overseas as cigarette consumption falls in the Tokyo-based company’s home market, which accounts for 76 percent of sales. FRANKFURT - EU health commissioner Markos Kyprianou aims to ban tobacco companies from sponsoring Formula 1 automotive racing, according to an interview by Financial Times Deutschland.
‘Formula 1 is a symbol,’ Kyprianou told the newspaper.
