Austin, Texas - An unusual kind of bird-watching is underway in Downtown Austin these days. Several mockingbirds are attacking people as they pass by the Stephen F. Austin building. It’s gotten so bad that workers in offices on the south side of the building pull chairs up to the window to look and laugh. Smoking ban ‘has closed 100 pubs’

Northern Ireland - More than 100 bars in Northern Ireland have closed since the introduction of the smoking ban, it has been claimed. The Federation of Retail Licensed Trade said that 7% of Northern Ireland’s pubs and bars had gone out of business since the ban’s introduction a year ago. Massachusetts - Last winter, just as the state’s highest court was about to rule that a girl in an “irreversible vegetative state” should be removed from life support, 14-year-old Haleigh Poutre started to breathe on her own.

Lutz, Florida — Nicole VanNeil is just a year over the legal drinking age, but already has four arrests for driving under the influence.
In the latest case, Hillsborough Sheriff’s Deputies say VanNeil was eight months pregnant when she was pulled over and failed her field sobriety test. FORT PIERCE — A 19-year-old woman was still in the St. Lucie County jail last night on a child neglect charge, after police found her 1-year-old son living in a home littered with filth, decaying food and other items. The home of Mary E. Fasnacht in the 800 block of Revels Lane had no running water and smelled of human waste, according to reports released Monday.
