Prom canceled after lesbian’s date request

JACKSON, Mississippi – A Mississippi county school board announced it would cancel its upcoming prom after a gay student petitioned to bring a same-sex date to the event. Constance McMillen, an 18-year-old senior at Itawamba, recently challenged a school policy prohibiting her from bringing her girlfriend as her date. She also wanted to wear a tuxedo to the dance. The school is in the wrong. It is funded by tax dollars and is a public school. She is part of the public. She is not breaking any law. The school is wrong. If the state (the people) does not like it then they need to make being gay illegal otherwise they need to treat each person the same with equal rights. I do forget sometimes. People do not want fair and equal. They do not want right over wrong. They want to push their morality and religious beliefs on others.

I taught in a different school district in Mississippi. Same sex prom dates weren’t denied. I think this district is having a knee-jerk reaction to the situation, probably brought on by some local, holier-than-thou church.

they say let all in . if 2 nudist came to the dance or prom striped clean would they be alowed to stay . why not it may be their belief so if you dis, against 1 then do the same to the other . if you say let 1 stay then let the other stay [ fair is fair]
