American student Otto Warmbier, 22, dies six days after being brought back to the US from North Korea in a coma

owOtto Warmbier has died six days after being brought back to the United States in a coma from North Korea.

Warmbier was returned to his family in Cincinnati, Ohio, on June 13 after spending 17 months in North Korea where he was arrested as a student for stealing a propaganda poster in January 2016.

He returned in a vegetative state, unable to communicate with his family and with devastating brain loss. North Korean authorities dubiously blamed his condition on a bout of food poisoning which they said he suffered while imprisoned.   More

WHAT KILLED PRINCE?

prince dead12:25 PM PT — The Sheriff’s department says Prince was found in an elevator at Paisley Park. They performed CPR, but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:07 AM Central Time.

11:27 AM PST – The Carver County Sheriff’s Office tells TMZ they are now investigating the circumstances of Prince’s death. At this time, there are no signs of foul play.

The artist known as Prince has died … TMZ has learned. He was 57.

Prince’s body was discovered at his Paisley Park compound in Minnesota early Thursday morning.  More

Oregon stand-off militiaman killed in shootout with the FBI

lavoyOregon militia spokesman LaVoy Finicum (picture) has been shot dead after a traffic stop escalated into a shoot-out that saw Ryan Bundy wounded and eight leaders of the occupation movement arrested.

The group’s leader Ammon Bundy was among the militiamen arrested during the encounter on Tuesday afternoon as they drove to attend a community meeting in the neighboring town. 

It is the climax of a tense stand-off between federal agents and the activists more than three weeks after they took over a government building in Burns, Oregon, to protest two ranchers being jailed. 

According to local media, shots were fired within minutes of the traffic stop, killing Finicum and wounding 43-year-old Ryan Bundy.  More

Villagers discover ‘plane wreckage’ washed up on Thailand beach prompting suspicions it could be from missing airliner MH370

metalThailand – A piece of suspected plane wreckage has been found on a beach in southern Thailand, prompting speculation it might belong to the missing Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.

The large piece of curved metal washed ashore in Nakhon Si Thammarat province, according to a local official. 

Villagers discovered the piece of metal, before reporting it to the authorities to help identify it, said Tanyapat Patthikongpan, head of Pak Phanang district.

The find has sparked speculation in the Thai media that the debris could belong to MH370, which disappeared with 239 people on board during a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing in March 2014.  More

Man swung from trees and tried to enter a monkey exhibit at the Santa Ana Zoo, claiming to be Tarzan

tarzanSANTA ANA, California – A man was arrested after police say he swung from trees and tried to enter a monkey exhibit at the Santa Ana Zoo, all while claiming to be “Tarzan.”

911 call: “We have a gentleman who appears to be under the influence of something and is climbing in our trees and jumping into animal exhibits,” Kent Yamaguchi, the zoo’s director, is heard in the 911 call recording.

Yamaguchi said the man, later identified by police as 37-year-old John William Rodenborn (picture), was shirtless and climbing trees near the zoo’s aviary.  More

North Carolina deputy dies after swarm of wasp stings

waspWILSON, North Carolina – A North Carolina sheriff’s deputy has died after being attacked by a swarm of wasps, according to the Wilson Times.

Wilson County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Ray “Bull” Tomlinson died Friday morning from cardiac arrest after being taken to Wilson Medical Center. He was 44.

The attack happened as the officer was helping someone load a piece of machinery in Wilson, according to family.

When they raised part of the equipment they reportedly disturbed a wasp nest.  More

CDC confirms first Ebola case diagnosed in US

texas healthDallas, Texas – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Tuesday confirmed the first case of Ebola has been diagnosed in the United States.

Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas officials said in a statement earlier Monday that an unnamed patient was being tested for Ebola and had been placed in “strict isolation” due to the patient’s symptoms and recent travel history.

At least 3,091 people have died from Ebola since the West African outbreak was first identified in Guinea six months ago.  More

Iraqi intelligence uncovers ISIS plot to attack US, Paris subways

subwayNEW YORK –  Iraq’s prime minister said Thursday his country’s intelligence operation has uncovered a plot for an imminent attack on subway systems in United States and Paris.

Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi said he was told of the plot by Baghdad, and that it was the work of foreign fighters of the Islamic State group in Iraq.

Asked if the attacks were imminent, he said, “Yes.”
