In Texas the rush is on for flu shots – Deadly strain causes death

Posted By Staff

Date: December 28th, 2013

fluUSA – Nearly two dozen cases of the potentially deadly H1N1 flu virus have been confirmed in the Chicago area, CBS 2 has learned.

“We don’t know why it’s emerging,” Schreckenberger says.

He says people may have gotten a false sense of security over the last couple of flu seasons, which were comparatively mild.

In Texas, the rush is on for flu shots. The very flu shots that Texans Dustin Wright, and his wife, Ashley, never received.

Dustin was hit with H1N1 flu strain, or swine flu, and he died Dec. 5.

The current flu vaccine offers protection, but it takes two weeks after you get the shot to build up the anti-bodies that provide protection from the flu.  More

Man buys picture of Xbox One thinking it is the actual console

Posted By Staff

Date: December 16th, 2013

xboxUK – Peter Clatworthy, 19, of Bilborough, Nottingham, spent $740 on eBay thinking he was buying an Xbox One, but in reality spent the small fortune on a grainy picture of Microsoft’s new video game console.

Given a full refund from eBay, the site has now promised to act against the misleading seller.

Peter Clatworthy, 19, thought he was getting an absolute steal when he forked out just $740 for the sought-after Day One edition.

The price was the same as in stores, but they’d sold out for Christmas. But, days later, he was stunned to receive just a photo of one in the post.

Going back to the listing, he realized the ad had actually read: “Xbox One Fifa Day One Edition, Photo Brand New UK 2013.”  More

Nidal Hasan sentenced death for the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood

Posted By Staff

Date: August 28th, 2013

Category: Breaking News

Fort Hood, Texas – A military court sentenced Nidal Hasan to death on Wednesday for the 2009 shooting rampage at Fort Hood, giving the Army psychiatrist what he believed would be a path to martyrdom in the attack on unarmed fellow soldiers.

The American-born Muslim, who has said he acted to protect Islamic insurgents abroad from American aggression, never denied being the gunman. In opening statements, he acknowledged to the jury that he pulled the trigger in a crowded waiting room where troops were getting final medical checkups before deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Hasan had no visible reaction when the verdict was read, staring first at the jury forewoman and then the judge. Officials said he will be taken back to a county jail and then transported on the first available military flight to the military prison at Fort Leavenworth in Kansas.

Hasan could become the first American soldier executed in more than half a century. But because the military justice system requires a lengthy appeals process, years or even decades could pass before he is put to death.  Full Article   WalMart

George Zimmerman found not guilty of murder in Trayvon Martin’s death

Florida - George Zimmerman is not guilty of murder in the death of Trayvon Martin, a Florida jury decided late Saturday.

The fact that Zimmerman fired the bullet that killed Martin was never in question, but the verdict means the six-person jury had reasonable doubt that the shooting amounted to a criminal act.

The verdict caps a case that has inflamed passions for well over a year, much of it focused on race and gun rights.

The jury — made up of all women — had three choices: to find Zimmerman guilty of second-degree murder; to find him guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter; or to find him not guilty.  Full Article    Sharpton: ‘Slap in the Face to Those Who Believe in Justice in This Country’   NAACP Is ‘Outraged And Heartbroken,’ And Will Pursue ‘Civil Rights Charges’  Against George Zimmerman    Zimmerman is a marked man and lives in fear for his life   Protests of Zimmerman verdict

How the new Pope is chosen

Posted By Staff

Date: March 12th, 2013

Category: Breaking News

VATICAN CITY – The 115 Roman  Catholic cardinals were locked in conclave to vote secretly on who should be the next pope.

Each cardinal put his hand on a Bible and swore an oath to vote fairly before  taking a seat for meditation.

Everyone except voting cardinals was expelled from the Sistine Chapel with  the order “extra omnes,” and only the electors remained.

The cardinals are under no deadline to select a pope, and will take four  votes each day until successful.

At least 77 of the 115 cardinal electors must agree on a candidate to become  the 266th pope.

French Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran will announce the name of Benedict  XVI’s successor as pope to the world, the Vatican said.

Tauran, 69, has been chosen to declare “habemus papam,” the formal Latin  declaration meaning, “We have a new pope,” once the conclave has elected a new  leader of the Roman  Catholic Church.”

His announcement will come after white smoke curls up from the Sistine  Chapel.  Full Article
