Posted By Staff

Date: July 1st, 2016

hannahMemphis – A disabled woman was beaten bloody by federal agents during an airport security screening while on her way to undergo treatment for a brain tumor.

Hannah Cohen set off the metal detector at a security checkpoint at the Memphis International Airport, and she was led away for additional screening, reported WREG-TV.

“They wanted to do further scanning, (but) she was reluctant — she didn’t understand what they were about to do,” said her mother, Shirley Cohen.

Cohen said she tried to tell agents with the Transportation Security Administration that her 19-year-old daughter is partially deaf, blind in one eye, paralyzed and easily confused — but she said police kept her away from the security agents.  More  Video

Pentagon honors teen hacker for exposing department’s online flaws

Posted By Staff

Date: June 19th, 2016

hackedWASHINGTON DC – An 18-year-old recent high school graduate was one of two people singled out by the Pentagon for hacking into its website and Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said he was thankful — to the hackers.

Carter met with the teen, David Dworken, and another hacker, Craig Arendt, the two who identified the highest number of potential vulnerabilities in several Defense Department websites, including its main one, www.defense.gov.

The hackers were participating in the Pentagon’s first “bug bounty,” where it asked those with computer hacking capabilities to investigate five public websites and identify potential lapses in security where a nefarious hacker could do damage.

If those participating identify a legitimate security breach, they earn a bounty.  Source

Posted By Staff

Date: June 13th, 2016

orlandoThe Orlando nightclub terrorist who pledged allegiance to ISIS worked almost a decade for a major Department of Homeland Security contractor, raising alarms that ISIS sympathizers and agents have infiltrated the federal agency set up after 9/11 to combat terrorists.

Officials say Omar Mir Seddique Mateen, an Afghan-American who held two firearms licenses and a security officer license, was employed by the security firm G4S Secure Solutions USA Inc. since Sept. 10, 2007.

The Jupiter, Fla.-based company merged with the Wackenhut Corp. after 9/11 and assumed federal contracts.

“G4S supports the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection (CPB), with its operations at the U.S. Mexico border and with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to transport illegal immigrants in selected urban areas,” the company says in a brochure, titled “Providing Manpower Solutions for Government Services.”  Source

TSA Revamps Training After Damning Report

Posted By Staff

Date: May 21st, 2016

tsaBALTIMORE – After a damning report last year found airport screeners missed a staggering 95% of suspicious items, the TSA has now revamped training.

The agency granted Investigator Mike Hellgren exclusive access to a session here in Maryland where screeners got to see the devastating impact of hidden explosives.

If these TSA screeners have any doubt about being the first line of defense, a training session in Carroll County shows them what they’re up against.

The TSA granted WJZ rare access to the exercise, where a team of specialists set off explosives hidden in underwear, bottles and tubes of toothpaste. All are methods terrorists have used in the past that could blow up a plane.  More

Chicago Airports Recommend 3-Hour Cushion For Security Lines

Posted By Staff

Date: May 17th, 2016

linesCHICAGO – Faced with excruciatingly long lines at security checkpoints, the TSA has dispatched 58 new security officers and four bomb-sniffing canine teams to O’Hare International Airport, according to U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin.

The move comes as officials at the Chicago Department of Aviation advised anyone flying out of O’Hare or Midway International Airport to show up three hours before their flight’s scheduled departure time.

That’s even longer than the two-hour cushion the TSA has suggested for domestic flights, although the TSA recommends arriving three hours early for international flights.  More

Posted By Staff

Date: May 6th, 2016

shampooTammy Nutall-Pritchard had been braiding hair with her older sister, Debra Nutall, since she was 18 years old.

Nutall taught Nutall-Pritchard the craft when she was 15, and the sisters would stand side-by-side behind the chairs of scores of clients at Nutall’s Memphis, Tenn., salon who came in to get their hair braided while chatting and gossiping with customers.

Nutall-Pritchard did well—she charged around $300 per head and sometimes made more than $1,000 each week.

“It gave me joy,” Nutall-Pritchard, 47, told The Daily Signal of working with her sister.   More

Hamilton to stay on $10; Tubman replacing Jackson

Posted By Staff

Date: April 20th, 2016

tubmanTreasury Secretary Jack Lew on Wednesday will announce plans to both keep Alexander Hamilton on the front of the $10 bill and to knock Andrew Jackson off the front of the $20 in favor of Harriet Tubman, sources tell POLITICO.

Lew is expected to roll out a set of changes that also include putting leaders of the women’s suffrage movement on the back of the $10 bill, and incorporating civil rights era leaders and other important moments in American history into the $5 bill.

Also, Jackson isn’t getting completely booted off the $20 bill. He’s likely to remain on the back.  More

Members of ‘Leavenworth 10′ languish in military prison, while Gitmo detainees freed

Date: March 26th, 2016

ftThe Obama administration is emptying the military’s Guantanamo Bay detention facility of avowed terrorists captured fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq, but several American service members languish in another military prison for actions on those same battlefields that their supporters say merit clemency, if not gratitude.

Among the prison population at Fort Leavenworth, in Kansas, are remaining members of the so-called “Leavenworth 10,” convicted service members doing terms ranging from 10 to 40 years for heat-of-the-battle decisions their supporters say saved American lives.

“The very people who protect our freedoms and liberties are having their own freedoms and liberties taken away,” said retired U.S. Army Col. Allen West, a former congressman and political commentator.

“I think it’s appalling and no one is talking about this issue.”  More

Family fights government to save its pet duck

Date: March 25th, 2016

duckEAST MONTPELIER, Vermont - In the white house around the bend of Horn of the Moon Road in East Montpelier, an unlikely resident is undoubtedly king of this castle. A stool is his refuge in the master bedroom.

And he’s got a buffet fit for a king. If for a wood duck this is considered living in the lap of luxury, then Peep’s got it made.

“It was like fate. It was like fate,” said Kim Stevens, Peep’s owner.

Peep’s lived with his family since he was wet out of the egg.

“We’ve never clipped his wings, we’ve never kept him in a cage. He’s allowed to go outside and fly around,” said Jodie May, Stevens’ daughter. And he always comes back to the only home he’s known.  More

Apollo Astronauts Heard Unexplained ‘Music’ On Far Side Of The Moon

Posted By Staff

Date: February 21st, 2016

musicThe crew of an Apollo mission to the moon were so startled when they encountered strange music-like radio transmissions coming through their headsets, they didn’t know whether or not to report it to NASA, it’s been revealed.

It was 1969, two months before Apollo 11′s historic first manned landing on the moon, when Apollo 10 entered lunar orbit, which included traversing the far side of the moon when all spacecraft are out of radio contact with Earth for about an hour and nobody on Earth can see or hear them.

As far as the public knew, everything about the mission went smoothly.  More

The odd parallels between Scalia and another Texas death, JFK

Posted By Staff

Date: February 21st, 2016

jfkTexas – Antonin Scalia’s death isn’t much of a puzzle. He was 79 years old and had heart disease.

It’s no stretch to conclude he died in his sleep.

But some people like to play detective, and the way news of his death spilled from West Texas was bound to fuel conspiracy theories.

It’s reminiscent of the circumstances surrounding another infamous Texas death — John F. Kennedy’s assassination in an open car in Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963.  More
