VA demands proof World War II combat vet with Purple Heart served in military

Posted By Staff

Date: February 8th, 2016

purpleThe Veterans Affairs Department refuses to pay benefits to a World War II vet in his 90s who was wounded in combat and earned a Purple Heart.

Fox 2 Now in St. Louis reports that after Emil Limpert submitted an application for benefits to the Department of Veterans Affairs he was told he needed to provide more proof that he was in the military.

“I get this letter that says we can’t accept it because we’ve got no record of you being in the service,” he told the station. “I guess I’m the unknown soldier.”

He was wounded in a foxhole in the Philippines in 1944.  More

Soldiers will stand guard at Tomb of Unknowns through historic storm

Posted By Staff

Date: January 23rd, 2016

guardWashington DC – A small group of soldiers will brave this weekend’s historic snowstorm to stand guard at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery.

“These guys will be out in the snow, no matter what,” said Major Russell Fox, a spokesman for the Army’s Old Guard, according to ABC News.

Tomb Sentinels from the Army’s 3rd Infantry Regiment’s Old Guard have guarded the memorial — regardless of the weather — for 24 hours a day, 365 days a year since April 6, 1948, ABC reported.

Fox said the soldiers will be shoveling snow from the plaza so it will not impede their duty.  More

You can track Santa in real-time using NORAD’s tool below. Mobile users who can’t see the tracker above can visit NORAD’s website to use it. More

Little boy accidentally phoned NORAD’s Soviet nuclear missile attack hotline to ask for Santa

Date: December 20th, 2015

colMuch about Santa Claus’s journey to millions of homes on Christmas Eve remains a mystery for both children and adults, though a joint effort of the US and Canadian militaries has made it part of its mission to provide some answers about how the big night unfolds.

Because of a newspaper’s misprint in 1955, the North American Aerospace Defense Command, designed to track aerial and space threats to the continent, received a call from a little boy hoping to speak to Father Christmas.

Colonel Harry Shoup (picture) received a call on a telephone meant to be used during an incidence of impending attack by the Soviet Union, but responded in a playful way and let the boy know where Santa was en route from the North Pole.  More

Today Is Veterans Day – We Thank Our Veterans For Their Service

Posted By Staff

Date: November 11th, 2015

thankUSA – Veterans Day is a public holiday that is dedicated to honoring anyone who has served in the United States military. The holiday began as a day to remember the end of World War I and was declared a holiday by President Woodrow Wilson in 1919. Originally known as Armistice Day, the holiday became Veterans Day in 1954.

When Woodrow Wilson declared 11 November a holiday, the primary intention was to have a day to reflect on the sacrifices of those who had served in the military during World War I. Observation of the holiday through parades and meetings was envisioned.

Today, many Americans observe the day by attending ceremonies and parades that are dedicated to honoring the troops for their service. These often allow veterans to speak about their time in the service and give Americans the opportunity to personally thank veterans for their sacrifice.

November 11 was chosen as the official date for Veterans Day in reference to the ending of World War I. Germany signed an armistice with the Allies that signaled the end of the war on at 11 a.m. on 11 November 1918.

US Airman accused of minor harassment faces more prison time than deserter Berghdahl

Posted By Staff

Date: November 6th, 2015

allmonNorth Dakota – He is an award-winning combat photographer who stands accused of trying to pick up women in the public affairs office at MinotAir Force Base in North Dakota, and for that prosecutors wanted to put him in prison for 130 years. The accused is Tech. Sgt. Aaron D. Allmon II.

The prosecutorial zeal was so great that an Air Force officer appointed to investigate the case said the piled-up charges were combined to “artificially exaggerate the criminality of the accused,” who often was simply “socially maladroit and crass.”

This is a glimpse into the new U.S. Armed Forces and its gender wars. It is a slice of military life stemming from the Pentagon’s order in 2013 to erase all sexual harassment and, to enforce it, staff the ranks with an advocacy bureaucracy to empower victims and make sure complaints are filed.  More

Air Force to property owners: Get out or else

Posted By Staff

Date: September 7th, 2015

extraLAS VEGAS –  The U.S. Air Force is giving an ultimatum to owners of a remote Nevada property that over time has been surrounded by a vast bombing range including the super-secret Area 51.

They’re being told to take a $5.2 million “last best offer” for their property by Thursday — or the government will seize it through condemnation.

The owners include descendants of a couple who lost their hardscrabble mining enterprise after the Air Force moved in in the 1940s.

Nuclear tests then began in 1951, their mine mill mysteriously exploded in 1954 and they ran out of money to seek reparations from the government in 1959.  More

West Point pillow fight leads to thirty students hospitalized

Posted By Staff

Date: September 5th, 2015

westWest Point - When signing up for the military, a pillow fight is perhaps not the first place you imagine yourself getting injured in the line of duty.

But that is exactly what happened to 30 cadets at West Point on August 20 as the traditional end-of-training brawl got out of hand.

One had to be taken away in an ambulance, another was left with a broken leg, and dozens suffered from dislocated shoulders and concussions, it has been reported.

According to the New York Times, some cadets had stuffed helmets and body armor into their pillow cases in an attempt to inflict maximum damage on those taking part.  More

Green Beret fighting to stay in Army was severely reprimanded by Gen. Hass (picture) for shoving Afghan rapist

Posted By Staff

Date: August 27th, 2015

genA decorated Green Beret being forced out of the military in a matter of months was taken to task in 2011 by a top Army general for confronting an accused Afghan rapist, according to an official reprimand obtained by Fox News – bolstering claims he is being discharged over the incident.

Fox News first reported last week that Sgt. 1st Class Charles Martland is being kicked out, and that his supporters suspect it is because of his actions standing up for a young Afghan rape victim.

This has outraged his colleagues, as well as Rep. Duncan Hunter, R-Calif., who calls it a “black mark” for the U.S. Army and wants Defense Secretary Ash Carter to reverse the decision.

guardsUSA – Armed vigilantes – many brandishing semi-automatic weapons – are stationing themselves outside gun-free military recruiting centers all over the country, claiming they are protecting troops following the recent killing of five servicemen in Chattanooga.

A group of five volunteers began standing guard outside the U.S. Armed Forces Recruiting Station in Clebune this week calling themselves ‘Operation Hero Guard’, with one carrying an AR-15, Others set up camp outside stations in Alabama, Ohio, Virginia and Wisconsin in a similar protest.

The move came as the general tapped to be the next Army chief of staff said Tuesday that if legal issues could be resolved he thinks it would be appropriate to arm soldiers manning recruiting stations.

Why should we make it easy for killers to attack our military?

gun freeThursday saw yet another tragic attack in a gun-free zone.  Four Marines were murdered.  Others were injured.

Watching the coverage on television Thursday, it was hard to ignore the gun-free zone sign on the front door of the recruiting station. It was surrounded by bullet holes.

Army regulations are very clear stating that personnel cannot have firearms during their official duties.  Last year the Obama administration instituted interim rules that clearly prohibit privately owned weapons from all federally leased office and land, including recruiters’ offices.

We trust soldiers to carry guns all the time when they are stationed in Iraq or Afghanistan, but somehow when they come home we no longer trust them.  More
