Date: July 12th, 2015

NapoleonNapoleon Bonaparte, the 19th century French military leader who seized power in France, conquered much of Europe and crowned himself emperor, was once attacked and defeated by a horde rabbits while hunting.

According to a 1901 report in Liverpool Herald, Napoleon’s embarrassing defeat started when he was invited to Baron Thiebault’s mansion one afternoon to hunt some rabbits for sport.

The hunt began when Thiebault unleashed hundreds of rabbits for the party to track down.

All those rabbits, which should have scattering themselves to escape being shot, suddenly faced about, and in an instant the whole bunch flung itself upon Napoleon.  More

Date: June 6th, 2015

hoffaOne of the most famous American figures to inexplicably disappear was Jimmy Hoffa, the famed president of the Teamsters Union from 1957 until he went to prison in 1967.

On July 30, 1975, Hoffa went to the Red Fox Restaurant outside of Detroit to allegedly meet three men, a Detroit labor leader, an important local mobster and a powerful figure in New Jersey Teamster politics.

Hoffa arrived first, around 2:00 in the afternoon, but after waiting nearly 30 minutes, none of the others had arrived. Annoyed, he called his wife and told her that he was going to wait for a few more minutes before giving up. This was the last time that she ever spoke with her husband.

At 2:45, Hoffa was seen getting into a car in the restaurant parking lot with several other men.   More

Posted By Staff

Date: June 2nd, 2015

leninThis alive looking mummy is Vladimir Lenin (1870 – 1924) – the father of Russian Communism and the first leader of the Soviet Union.

The government decided to preserve the body of Lenin for future generations.

As no attempts to mummify a body for generations had ever been attempted before, the Russians had to invent a highly complex process of embalming.

Lenin’s body requires extensive chemical baths, injections and evaluation. The body’s organs were removed and replaced with a humidifier and pumping system, designed to maintain the body’s core temperature and fluid intake.  Continued at Nutty Facts

jamieIn February 2014, Jamie Coots died after refusing to be treated, Middlesboro, Tennessee, police said.

Dogs Get The Flu Too

fluDr. Audrey Cook, an associate professor of small animal medicine at Texas A&M University, said this strain of canine flu hasn’t responded to existing vaccines.

“There is no recognized treatment for the virus itself,” she said. “Usually treatment consists of supportive care.”

The Midwestern outbreak sickened thousands of dogs and killed at least eight in Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio and Illinois. It is unknown how the virus came to the United States, but Dr. Cook says it probably traveled with an animal from East Asia. It spreads because it’s airborne.  More

Where is the safest place to sit on a train?

Posted By Staff

Date: May 14th, 2015

Category: Nutty Facts

crashConventional wisdom holds that the front car of a train is the most dangerous place in the event of a head-on collision, while the last car is less safe if the train is rear-ended.

But, in fact, trains are nine times more likely to derail than to hit another train or car head-on or to get hit from behind, according to the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA).

In general, aisle seats are safer than window seats, where a passenger is more likely to come in contact with broken glass or be thrown from the train.

Safety experts also recommend choosing a rear-facing seat, because a person sitting there is less likely to be thrown forward during a collision.  More

Today Is Tax Day For Americans

Posted By Staff

Date: April 15th, 2015

Category: Nutty Facts

tax dayUSA – As they rush to file their taxes by April 15, Americans are rightfully frustrated with the complexity of the 74,608-page-long federal tax code.

The federal tax code is 187 times longer than it was a century ago, according to Wolters Kluwer, CCH, which has analyzed the federal tax code since 1913.

Amazingly, in the first 26 years of the federal income tax, the tax code only grew from 400 to 504 pages. Even through President Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal, the tax code was well under 1,000 pages. Changes during World War II made the length of the tax code balloon to 8,200 pages.

Most of the growth in the tax code came in the past 30 years, growing from 26,300 pages in 1984 to nearly three times that length today.  Continued at Nutty Facts
