catThe man suspected of placing a dead cat in the safe deposit box of a Stevens Point bank because he wanted to rid the institution of “fraud” has maintained his plea of not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.

Justin Doppsmith appeared in a Portage County courtroom Friday morning after another evaluation of him was conducted by the state.

Charges against Doppsmith stem from two separate incidents. The first involved charges of disorderly conduct, bail jumping, and resisting or obstructing an officer for putting the dead cat along with a loaf of bread and a dollar bill wrapped around a rock into the safe deposit box. Investigators said the cat had been dead for quite some time.

Doppsmith also spit at officers as they were questioning him about the incident because they “were not a game warden.”

He’s also accused of arson for setting fire to a tree in order to help it “molt.”

After accepting the plea and all reports, a judge sentenced Doppsmith to six years at the Department of Health Services, beginning immediately. He was given credit for days already served on both counts.

blueA Boston couple are thanking a JetBlue flight crew for coming to the rescue of their French bulldog when the canine had trouble breathing.

Steven and Michele Burt said they were flying home to Boston from Florida on Thursday when their dog, Darcy, showed signs that she was having trouble breathing.

“I noticed that her tongue was blue and I am aware that is a sign of insufficient oxygen (Hypoxia),” Michele Burt wrote in a letter addressed to JetBlue and provided to WCVB-TV. “I pulled her out from under the seat and placed her on my lap to cool down and help her relax as she was panicking and breathing frantically.”

Burt wrote that flight attendants Renaud Spencer and Diane Asher brought Darcy bags of ice and a small oxygen mask.

“I placed the mask over her face, and within a few minutes she became alert and after a short time, she didn’t want the mask,” she wrote. “I believe Renaud and Diane saved a life. Some may reduce the value of the life because Darcy is a canine. I do not.”

JetBlue applauded the efforts of the flight attendants.

“We all want to make sure everyone has a safe and comfortable fight, including those with four legs,” the airline said in a statement. “We’re thankful for our crew’s quick thinking and glad everyone involved was breathing easier when the plane landed in Worcester.”  Video

snakeA Thailand man captured video of a snake he found in his bedroom that had partially swallowed a piece of his wife’s lingerie.

Sakda Lasada, 35, said he arrived at his home in Ubon Ratchathani and discovered a golden tree snake was in his bedroom.

The husband pulled on the snake’s tail and discovered the reptile had swallowed a large section of his wife’s pink silk nightie.

”I think the snake felt a little bit sick. It’s not the normal food they eat. It would have been very difficult for him to digest this. He could have had problems if we didn’t pull it out,” Sakda said.

The video shows him pulling on the snake’s tail, causing it to regurgitate the lingerie.

Sakda said he safely released the snake outside his home.  Video

sandwichA tasty typo mistakenly turned a U.S. Senate candidate’s name into that of a sandwich.

The Connecticut Post reports that a banner on Connecticut Senate candidate Dominic Rapini’s website’s read “Approved by Dominic Panini.”

When told about the mistake, Rapini told the newspaper: “Oh, my God, you’re kidding me!”

The mistake was fixed as of Thursday afternoon.

The Apple executive faces Republican-endorsed candidate Matthew Corey in the August primary. They’re hoping to take on Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy in the fall.

Rapini’s last name already has an appetizing meaning. He says rapini means broccoli rabe in Italian, so people often find recipes when they Google his name.

raceThere is no pantsing in racing!

A stumbling Ethiopian runner, Yomif Kejelcha, appeared to grab the shorts of compatriot Selemon Barega in a 5,000-meter race in Lausanne, Switzerland.

But the move ? intentional or not ? backfired. Kejelcha fell to the track as Barega fended him off. Barega still managed to take second in the Diamond League event, while Kejelcha was disqualified.

Kejelcha, who was leading as they approached the home stretch, later blamed Barega for tripping him, the Guardian reported.

The race produced a 2018 world-best time of 13 minutes, 1.09 seconds from the winner, Birhanu Balew of Bahrain. But many will probably remember the event for the near-pantsing.

lionA group of rhino poachers were reportedly eaten by lions after allegedly breaking into a South African animal reserve, according to the facility.

After a police forensic unit and the reserve’s anti-poaching unit conducted an investigation, Fox said they found “the axe, various pieces of clothing, [and] shoes” and that “everything was very spread out.”

Although it is unclear how many poachers were eaten, the crew believes there were at least 3 victims given the amount of shoes and gloves found.

The alleged poachers allegedly brought a high-powered rifle with a silencer, wire cutters, an axe for cutting out the rhino horns, and food to last for several days.

Fox says rhino poaching has become “a massive problem” because the “rhino horn has now become more valuable than gold per gram.”

In 2017, more than 1,000 rhinos were killed in South Africa, according to National Geographic. There are approximately less than 30,000 rhinos in the world, and South Africa is home to more than 80% of the remaining population.

Overall, Fox is grateful for both his rhinos and his lions.

homeAnna Mae Blessing, who is charged with murder, contemplated her son’s intentions to put her into care for days, according to court documents.

“You took my life, so I’m taking yours,” she reportedly said as she was escorted out of the Arizona home she shared with her son and his girlfriend.

Mrs Blessing told police she had intended to kill herself, too.

The incident happened in the morning of 2 July in the town of Fountain Hills, Maricopa county, police records obtained by local media say.

Mrs Blessing’s son, whose name has not been released, wanted her to leave for an assisted living facility because she “had become difficult to live with”.

The mother concealed two firearms in her robe pockets before confronting her son in his bedroom, police said in a statement.

During the ensuing argument, she pulled out one revolver, purchased in the 1970s, and fired at her son.

Police found the son dead, with two bullet wounds to his neck and jaw.

Mrs Blessing then pointed the gun at her son’s 57-year-old girlfriend, who managed to wrestle it away and throw it into a corner of the room.

She pulled out a second pistol, which she told police her late husband had given to her in the 1970s.

The girlfriend managed to knock this one out of Mrs Blessing’s hands, too, before escaping and calling the sheriff’s office.

Police found Mrs Blessing in a reclining chair in her bedroom. She later told them she deserved to be “put to sleep” for her actions.

She is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated assault and kidnapping, and her bail was set at $500,000.

big chipTo celebrate the arrival of Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, the movie’s overlords and those of Frito-Lay teamed up to birth the largest Doritos chip ever made.

I have one of these bad boys in my possession—I have for about a week now—and something inside told me not to eat it yet. Turns out my gut was right: This thing is not to be eaten, because people are offering up top dollar for it.

According to my certificate, they only made 100 of these things, and one of them was put up for auction earlier this week by the Dorito Gods themselves in an effort to raise money for the Red Cross.

And that, they did. After 75 bids (10 of them eclipsing $10,000), somebody paid $12,000 USD for the big orange tortilla chip, sitting in a ceramic egg next to my desk as I type this.

burgerTim McCormick, a cop in Fort Myers, publicly accused a local Burger King of serving him dirt on a burger. But after an investigation, the “dirt” was found to be the burger seasoning.

Fitzpatrick said that after the officers watched the video they determined that nothing inappropriate had happened to the food cooked for McCormick.

So what was it?

As part of the prep process for cooking the meat, Fitzpatrick said, there is a salt and pepper blend applied to the food. He said it is possible that the spice mixture, as well as the flame-broiled grilling process itself, may have left particles the officer thought was dirt.

seagulAnimal rescuers in Britain said they have noted an uptick in calls to rescue “drunk” seagulls that apparently got into brewery waste.

RSPCA officers Jo Daniel, Clara Scully and Paul Adams said they have responded to more than a dozen calls in recent weeks about gulls exhibiting the same intoxication symptoms. The animal rescue charity said the birds are believed to have gotten into waste from a brewery or alcohol producer.

“We have had a number of these come through over the last couple of weeks,” Daniel said. “We think they’re gaining access to some brewing waste products somewhere.”

“At first, the birds look like they have botulism but then, after vomiting, most seem to recover,” she said. “The birds absolutely stink of alcohol when we collect them so now our vans smell like pubs!”

RSPCA veterinarian David Couper said most of the intoxicated gulls were collected in Devon, but some were spotted in Dorset.

“The birds appear disoriented and confused and struggle to stand. We took some video of one of the birds who is staggering around and losing his balance just like a person would if they’d had too much to drink,” the veterinarian said.

6An Ontario man is offering an unusual set of items on eBay — a McDonald’s cheeseburger and fries that spent six years on a shelf.

Dave Alexander posted a listing on the auction website for the 6-year-old burger and fries, which he said were “never eaten” or even refrigerated.

“The fries are stunningly good looking. The fries look like they were purchased this morning,” Alexander told CBC Radio’s As It Happens program.

“The burger itself has darkened a little bit. The bun is about as hard as a hockey puck, but it looks just like it’s brand new cosmetically,” he said.

Alexander said he had his daughter buy him the burger and fries on June 6, 2012, so he could put them on a shelf in his home and determine whether rumors that McDonald’s food doesn’t decompose were mere urban legend.

He said a homemade burger and fries placed next to the fast food items five years ago have been rotting as expected.

“The cheese on the homemade one, especially the french fries, the potatoes, just look like little bits of charcoal right now,” he said.

The McDonald’s burger and fries started at $22.91 and bids reached $62.65 on Friday with six days remaining in the auction.

pigA man in Ohio realized the downside of bringing home the bacon when a pig wouldn’t stop following him on his way home early Saturday morning. Police in Elyria, Ohio, say they thought the unidentified man must have been drunk or hallucinating when he called for backup after failing to shake the swine.

The North Ridgeville Police Department said they received the call at 5:26 a.m. Saturday morning. Upon arrival, they discovered the man, who was totally sober but still being followed by the pig near the city’s Amtrak station.

An officer loaded the pig into his police cruiser and eventually returned it to its owner. A department spokesperson told CBS News the pig’s name was Zoey.

“Also, we will mention the irony of the pig in a police car now so that anyone that thinks they’re funny is actually unoriginal and trying too hard,” the department said in a Facebook post.

Hitler not alive on the moon, study confirms

hitlerAfter completing what they say is the first examination of Adolf Hitler’s remains since World War II, a team of researchers has announced that the Nazi leader most definitely died in Berlin and, therefore, cannot possibly still be alive on the moon.

The study was no easy feat. Over the past 73 years, Hitler’s presumed corpse has been set on fire, secretly buried, dug up by the Soviets, hidden by the KGB and finally ordered destroyed.

Hitler’s person, meanwhile, has appeared in the fantasies of all manner of conspiracy theorists who insist his body is a fake.

So last year, a team of French researchers persuaded the Russian government to let them inspect the last two bits of Hitler known to exist: a bullet-shot chunk of skull and a set of frankly disgusting teeth.

They compared these fragments to war-era autopsy records and concluded that, yep, those are definitely Hitler’s teeth.

“There is no possible doubt. Our study proves that Hitler died in 1945,” co-author Philippe Charlier told Agence France-Presse after the paper published Friday in the European Journal of Internal Medicine.

“He did not flee to Argentina in a submarine,” Charlier continued. “He is not in a hidden base in Antarctica or on the dark side of the moon.”

Man parks stolen Walmart trailer outside his home, Gets arrested

walmartPolice have arrested one man in the theft of a Walmart trailer full of goods.

They found it off of Grape Road Monday morning with the contents being unloaded into a local home.

After hearing information about a possible stolen Walmart trailer full of merchandise, one sitting out in the middle of someone’s yard on grape road looked a little suspicious to police.

They took a look and found the trailer was stolen and it was being unloaded by several people. One man, 42-year-old Josephvon Johnson of Jackson, Tennessee was arrested for the theft of the Walmart trailer from a store in Lansing, Illinois…So how did it end up here?

Someone at the house says his cousin bought something on a discount warehouse website, and that’s what led to the trailer making its way to Mishawaka.

After all of the action calmed down, Walmart sent its people in to reclaim their lost inventory.

But it’s hard work. I ended up helping out for 15 minutes or so and found that the entire garage was filled to the brim with products.

And to make things worse, each item had been removed from its pallet, meaning forklifts were useless.

The employees had to move everything by hand. This wasn’t just one product being carried, there was everything from small candles, to bicycles, food, and more.

So there was no way to sort what was being thrown in. Even with half a dozen people, the work looked like it was going to take a few hours just to load back up the truck.
