Man refused booze on flight to New Orleans punched cops, threatened to put worker ‘in a body bag’

bagWhen crew members refused to serve him a fourth drink on a flight to New Orleans, a Southwest Airlines passenger threatened to put one of them “in a body bag,” punched two policemen in the face after landing, and was shocked with stun guns before he was arrested, federal prosecutors said this week.

Joel Michael Bane, a martial arts trainer from New Jersey, pleaded guilty in New Orleans federal court Thursday to one count of interference with a flight crew.

The flight attendants told Bane they couldn’t serve any more booze so late in the flight, and one of them told him to sit down. But he grew angry, refused to sit and asked what the flight attendants would do about it, according to the summary.

One of the attendants reported the commotion to the plane’s pilot, who announced over the intercom that all passengers should sit down if they didn’t want “security to greet you when we land.”

“We’ll handle any customer issues that you may have when we land,” the pilot said. “Please take your seats now for safety. Thank you.”

Bane, prosecutors said, shot back, “That captain has no authority over me.” He continued refusing to sit, with at least one passenger recording video of him with a cellphone. That clip showed several people walking up to Bane in apparently fruitless  attempts to calm him.

Bane told one of the attendants that he was a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan. He then said “the flight crew, including the captain, would be nothing for (him) to handle” and that he would put one of the attendants “in a body bag.”

After landing, a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy and a levee district policeman boarded the plane. But he ignored Levee Police Captain Vincent Yetta’s commands to disembark, yelling, “Move me!”

Yetta unsuccessfully tried to push Bane toward the door. Instead, Bane, who the court documents note is “large and very muscular,” pushed Yetta into a corner and then punched both him and Sheriff’s Office Deputy Carl Cade.

Other law enforcement officers rushed aboard. He shouted profanities and refused commands to get on the floor or put his hands behind his back, prosecutors said.

Officers finally shocked Bane with stun guns to arrest him.

goatYesterday, WCCO reported numerous sightings of a sizeable white goat — unaccompanied, but not particularly alarmed, by the looks of it — picking its way through construction sites and peering into windows with its creepy sideways goat pupils.

Police do not know where the goat came from, or where it currently is, or, presumably, why its stare sees straight into your soul.

Commander Joshua Otis says the goat is still at large, making it that much more likely that it will find you alone and unprotected and drag you to hell.

“It’s a very elusive animal,” he says.

As always, commenters on the police department’s Facebook page have been eager to speculate where the hooved beast came from.

Some theorize it’s one of those buckthorn-eating St. Paul goats, escaped from its post, O Brother, Where Art Thou?-style.

Others literally insist it belongs to the Church of Satan and that it must be returned as soon as possible.

KYTV reports that the newspaper’s launch was announced Wednesday, just days after GateHouse Media said it was shuttering Pulaski County’s local paper, the Daily Guide.

The new publication’s editor, Natalie Sanders, led the Daily Guide before leaving in June to start what she calls a “fun” paper that will include local news and promote the tourist town of Uranus, which is pronounced the way any self-respecting class clown would say it.

Bobbi Layne Kayser announced in a Facebook post that Lucy Lou, the dog who served as mayor of Rabbit Hash from 2008 until 2016, died Monday at the age of 12.

Lucy Lou, who retired Nov. 8, 2016, was the third dog mayor of Rabbit Hash, the first female mayor of the town and the first mayor to not die in office.

“She was an astounding canine who brought joy to many more people than just her immediate family. I’m so proud to have known her and shared these short years on earth with her. Run free and easy, sweet girl. Momma loves you,” Kayser wrote.

Lucy Lou’s primary duties included attending charity events and serving as spokesdog for the local women’s shelter. She also appeared on CBS Sunday Morning and shows as far away as Japan.

The canine ran for president in 2016 as a write-in candidate.

waveA Pennsylvania couple taking their wedding photos on a Hawaiian beach ended up soaked by a huge wave and the moment was caught on video.

Jayden Barrientos said he was visiting the China Walls, located east of Honolulu, when he noticed the brides having their wedding photos taken in white gowns on a nearby cliff.

“I thought, ‘Okay, that’s a bad place to stand; the waves are going to hit them,’” Barrientos told NBC Philadelphia.

Barrientos captured video of the moment the newlyweds, Kirea Lovell and Jenny McCauley of Montgomery County, Pa., were soaked by the huge wave.

“There were like three waves before the big one — you can see them in the video — and I was like, ‘Oh, this giant wave is going to crash on the rocks right where they’re standing,” Barrientos said.

McCauley and Lovell said the wave took them completely by surprise.

lotteryA Connecticut woman’s $1 graduation gift turned out to be more valuable than expected when the lottery ticket won her $2,000 a month for life.

Anissa Dellaripa, 22, of South Windsor, told Connecticut Lottery officials her dad bought her the $1 Win for Life ticket as a college graduation gift and she was shocked to discover she had won the top prize, $2,000 a month for life.

“My dad often buys me scratch tickets for fun,” Dellaripa said. “He gave me this one and said, ‘Here, scratch it.’ The ticket cost only a dollar; he didn’t really think anything of it. I went to my room, scratched the ticket, and couldn’t believe it when I saw the ‘WIN FOR LIFE’ prize [symbol]. I thought he gave me a fake ticket as a joke, but I really won!”

Dellaripa decided to take the $2,000 per month payment option over the lump sum, which would have come to $400,000.

Snakes On A Plate Served Steamed Or Fried In This Country

snakesWith their meat served up in a wide array of dishes and blood added to rice wine, snakes make a reputedly satisfying — and nourishing — meal in Vietnam.

Caught in the jungles of the north of the country, snake flesh is traditionally believed to help with cooling overheated body temperatures, relieving headaches and easing digestion.

Restaurants will cook it steamed or fried with lemongrass and chilli and serve it with a rice wine mixed with snake blood, said chef Dinh Tien Dung, who works at a restaurant in Yen Bai province three hours northwest of the capital Hanoi.

Holding a snake’s head with one hand, Dinh Tien Dung slit its body near the head with a knife and squeezed blood out of it, dripping it into a cup of rice wine.

“We make use of every part of the snake except its head and its scales,” said the 32-year-old.

Locals believe that only men over 50 should drink snake wine, as younger males are likely to experience “backache or impotence,” said restaurant owner Duong Duc Doc.

Florida man stops to help stranded motorist who turned out to be hitman hired to kill him

hitWhen police found Carlos Cruz-Echevarria dead near his home last Veterans Day, he was lying face down in a ditch, shot multiple times in the head.

Beside him was a truck stuck in the mud. Later, the 60-year-old army veteran’s car was found several miles away, torched. It seemed like a random, senseless killing: authorities thought Cruz-Echevarria had been robbed and left for dead after stopping to help a stranger on a Daytona Beach roadside. But a year long investigation has revealed that it was anything but random.

The Volusia County Sheriff’s Department arrested two men and a woman this week in what they are calling a murder-for-hire plot to keep Cruz-Echaverria from testifying in a road rage case.

The three have been charged with first degree murder, and prosecutors are considering the death penalty, sheriff Michael Chitwood said in a Friday news conference.

“This is one of the most heinous, despicable, cowardly acts that I’ve ever witnessed,” Mr Chitwood said. “Somebody’s gonna pay the ultimate price.”

In a savage stroke of fate, a passing driver stopped to help him out: Cruz-Echevarria. As he bent to inspect the truck, authorities said, Bascom shot him multiple times in the head.

“The stars aligned unfortunately,” sheriff Chitwood said during the news conference. “He didn’t even see it coming.”

In some ways, the plot worked: the charges against McFoley were dropped, and for months, it seemed there would be no justice in Cruz-Echevarria’s slaying. Investigators offered a $10,000 (£7,700) reward for information leading to the killer’s capture. Then DNA evidence tied the stolen car and Cruz-Echevarria’s torched one to Bascom, but the real “smoking gun” in the case came from phone records, Mr Henderson said.

All three alleged co-conspirators were arrested Tuesday in different parts of the state, Mr Henderson said. Bascom was trying to flee – he had bought a one-way ticket to Texas and was going through security check at Orlando International Airport when he was arrested. US marshals nabbed McFoley in Orlando. Volusia County detectives caught Roque on a Florida interstate highway.

Assistant state attorney Ryan Will said prosecutors are considering seeking the death penalty for the three people charged in Cruz-Echevarria’s death. In the next 30 days, prosecutors will talk with the victim’s family and see what their wishes are moving forward, but as of now, capital punishment is a possibility, Mr Will said.

Cruz-Echevarria was a hardworking, self-made man who was beloved by those who knew him, Volusia County Sheriff’s office detective said in a video shown at the news conference. His slaying “brought the community to its knees”.

Mr Chitwood said he hopes the defendants get the death penalty, stressing that Cruz-Echevarria had not deserved to die.

“A road rage incident where a man does what he’s supposed to do: notify the police, cooperate with the system, and his thanks was to end up with multiple bullets in his head,” he said.

spiderPolice say a naked woman who was running through a Florida park told them she had been doing drugs and took her clothes off to get away from a giant spider.

St. Petersburg police officers responded to Bartlett Park at 2: 13 p.m. on Sunday and found Danielle Delores Teeples, 40, completely nude.

Witnesses told police that Teeples had been acting erratically and rubbing her hair and breasts while screaming and running between two trees.

There were numerous people at the park at the time of the incident and vehicles on  4th Street South were slowing down and honking at Teeples as they saw her running around in the nude.

Teeples allegedly told police she had recently taken spice, crystal meth and crack cocaine.

She said she believed a giant spider was on her, so she took her clothes off to get away from it. She told officers she was disturbed by her behavior.
