budBudweiser wasn’t kidding about its plans to brew “the first beer on Mars.”

After announcing its initiative at the South by Southwest conference in March, Budweiser is reportedly taking its next (small) steps toward accomplishing its out-of-this-world goal by sending beer-making grains — namely, barley — into space later this year.

According to a press release, in early December SpaceX will be delivering the shipment of barley to the International Space Station, where it will remain in orbit for a month.

Once back on Earth, the barley will be analyzed in order to determine how the grain reacts to microgravity environments.  More

Pick up his flight suit. Leave enough food for his four cats, just in case anything happens.

Hughes is a 61-year-old limo driver who has spent the last few years building a steam-powered rocket out of salvage parts in his garage.

His project has cost him $20,000, which includes Rust-Oleum paint to fancy it up and a motor home he bought on Craig’s List that he converted into a ramp.  More

The disclosure has prompted calls for the regulator to stop companies passing the cost of a discredited medieval practice on to their customers.

Ofwat said any firm failing to meet its commitments to customers faced a financial penalty.

Dowsers, or water witchers, claim that their divining rods cross over when the presence of water is detected below ground.

roverNASA’s yet unnamed sequel to the Curiosity rover has potentially quite a long mission ahead of it.

In addition to searching for signs of life, collecting geological samples, and analyzing past climates, beginning in 2021 the rover will attempt to produce oxygen from the CO2-rich martian atmosphere.

Being able to produce oxygen for breathing and rocket fuel right there on the Martian surface is absolutely critical for human exploration of the Red Planet.

At least if we want people to survive on the surface beyond just a few days.  More
