windLayrd Mahler of Arizona was shocked to discover a snake appear on his windshield as he was driving in Phoenix.

Mahler explained to ABC 15 that he noticed the snake poke out his head from underneath the hood of his vehicle before it ended up in front of him on his windshield.

“Surprised, but at the same time I was driving, so there was no way I was going to panic because I didn’t want to get in an accident,” he said to Fox 10 of his reaction to seeing the snake.

Mahler quickly began filming the incident and tried using his windshield wipers to dispose of the snake, however, the unwanted guest then simply wrapped itself around the wipers before retreating back under the hood.

It was then that Mahler pulled over and attempted to locate the snake to no avail.

“Now I’m debating ‘do I get back in the car?” Mahler said. “I don’t know if it’s going to go through the vent system because they can do that. Or, do I just man up and drive home? So that’s what I did.”  Source

Ailing Texas inmate wants execution by firing squad or gas

bibleA 66-year-old Texas death row inmate who confessed to four slayings and at least nine rapes is set for lethal injection amid his lawyers’ concerns that multiple health issues make it likely his execution will be botched and cause him unconstitutional pain.

Danny Paul Bible was condemned for killing a woman in Houston nearly 40 years ago.

Twenty-year-old Inez Deaton was stabbed with an ice pick, raped and left on the bank of a bayou.

Bible’s lawyers say his health problems will prevent Texas prison technicians from inserting an IV for the lethal drugs. They’re proposing a firing squad or nitrogen gas as means of execution, but Texas law only allows lethal injection.

Bible’s attorneys are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to halt Wednesday evening’s scheduled lethal injection.  Source

dnaHe was a WWII veteran with a Purple Heart, a wife and three children. But in 1964, he vanished, moved across the country and later took the identity of an 8-year-old boy who had died years before.

His case had confounded investigators for more than a decade. US Marshal Pete Elliott called it “one of northeast Ohio’s biggest mysteries.”

Now, with the help of DNA testing, some of the pieces have come together.

In 2002, a 76-year-old man named Joseph Newton Chandler III locked the doors and windows in his apartment outside Cleveland. He turned off the air conditioning and marked the date on his calendar. Then he went into his bathroom and took his own life.

Police discovered his body about one week later, but it had decomposed in the summer heat. No fingerprints could be lifted from the man’s remains and his body was cremated.

When the name “Joseph Newton Chandler III” was run through a database, police saw the man had stolen the identity of an 8-year-old boy who died in a car accident with his parents in 1945. That’s when things got interesting.  More
