Atlanta couple terrorized by unknown glitch

Posted By Staff

Date: January 23rd, 2016

leeGeorgia – An Atlanta couple is being bombarded by people pounding on their front door, sometimes in the middle of the night, sometimes with a cop, demanding that they hand over a missing phone.

Christina Lee and Michael Saba’s answer is always the same: ‘Your phone-tracking app is wrong, we’re sorry you’ve come all this way. This has happened before.’

They received more than a dozen visits in the last year – and two already in the first month of 2016.

As the visits continue, Lee and Saba are getting more and more worried that one day the person who believes their stolen iPhone is inside their home won’t be as understanding as the last.  More

Stop killer robots before it is too late

Posted By Staff

Date: January 22nd, 2016

killerDavos Switzerland – The world must act quickly to avert a future in which autonomous robots with artificial intelligence roam the battlefields killing humans, scientists and arms experts warned at an elite gathering in the Swiss Alps.

Rules must be agreed to prevent the development of such weapons, they said at a January 19-23 meeting of billionaires, scientists and political leaders in the snow-covered ski resort of Davos.

Angela Kane, the German UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs from 2012-2015, said the world had been slow to take pre-emptive measures to protect humanity from the lethal technology.

“It may be too late,” she told a debate in Davos.  More

Thief Tripped Up In The Cloud

Posted By Staff

Date: November 22nd, 2015

cloudCalifornia – Police are searching for the California woman who allegedly robbed a high school student of her iPhone and then used the device to take a series of “selfie” photos that were automatically uploaded to the victim’s cloud storage account.

The “selfies” helped El Cerrito Police Department investigators identify Tasja Dowell, 18, as the assailant who attacked the victim earlier this month.

Cops charge that Dowell approached the El Cerrito High School student around 12:40 PM on November 5 and demanded that she hand over her phone and backpack.

Dowell, police say, accosted the victim after exiting a vehicle containing several males.  More

bank securityTexas – Houston has a lot to be proud of, and frequently tops the list in national polls for best places to live and do business in.

According to the Federal Bureau of Investigations, however, it also tops another list: armed bank robberies.

A recent report released by the FBI shows that more than 40 percent of bank robberies in Houston were violent takeover style – where customers and employees are held at gunpoint and taken hostage – compared to the national average of six percent.

And according to other sources, a location that has been robbed once is 80% more likely to be robbed again unless proactive security measures are taken.  More

Woman wins disability grant – Allergic to cell phones

Posted By Staff

Date: August 27th, 2015

ehToulouse, France – A French court has awarded a disability grant to a woman claiming to suffer from a debilitating allergy to electromagnetic radiation from everyday gadgets such as cellphones.

The applicant, Marine Richard, 39, hailed the ruling as a “breakthrough” for people afflicted by Electromagnetic Hypersensitivity (EHS).

The condition is not recognised as a medical disorder in most countries, including France, but sufferers insist that exposure to mobile phones, wifi routers, televisions and other gadgets cause them anything from mild discomfort to life-ruining disability.

Scientific studies have found no evidence linking electromagnetic exposure to the symptoms — tingling, headaches, fatigue, nausea, or palpitations.  More

China’s drastic ‘concentration rehab camp’ for net-junkie youths

Posted By Staff

Date: August 5th, 2015

netChina – Every morning at 6.30 am in a padlocked wing of a military-style compound in southern Beijing, a whistle sounds. It’s the cue for around 50 camouflage shirt-clad young Chinese men and around five young women to get up.

They line up outside their dormitories as a drillmaster barks out a name register and a day of punishing military exercises and lectures begins.

At 9.30pm they are locked up again and it’s strictly lights out.

For most people sent here (some of whom have been drugged by their parents to get them behind the locked gates), this routine is repeated daily for six months.  More
