fathers dayUSA – Father’s Day was inaugurated in the United States in the early 20th century to complement Mother’s Day in celebrating fatherhood and male parenting.

After the success obtained by Anna Jarvis with the promotion of Mother’s Day in the US, some wanted to create similar holidays for other family members, and Father’s Day was the choice most likely to succeed.

Father’s Day was founded in Spokane, Washington at the YMCA in 1910 by Sonora Smart Dodd, who was born in Arkansas.

Its first celebration was in the Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910. Her father, the Civil War veteran William Jackson Smart, was a single parent who raised his six children there.  More

Friday The 13th 2014

Date: June 13th, 2014

FULLFor the first time in 2014, the 13th of the month will fall on a Friday, the unluckiest 24 hours on the calendar.

As if the superstitious won’t be suffering enough this Friday the 13th, the date is also set to coincide with a full moon, an out-of-this-world omen considered by some to be responsible for interrupting the human psyche and the world’s natural balance.

While the merging events may keep some fear-believers indoors this Friday, Space.com insists that the full moon will only be considered “full” at exactly 12:11 a.m. EDT.

This combination of events last occurred Oct. 13, 2000.  More True Facts

d dayOn June 6, 1944, about 150,000 troops stormed the beaches of France in the epic D-Day invasion that proved pivotal to the Allied war effort. But how did the idea originate and how did the Allies pull off such a huge task?

The numbers involved in the Normandy landings are still staggering today, and unlikely to be seen again in a modern age of combat.

The D-Day attack consisted or more than 150,000 personnel coming across the English Channel by sea and air, and about 100,000 troops were involved in the invasion on June 6.

Of the 100,000 or so fighters in the invading force, about 9,000 were killed or wounded on June 6, 1944.

General Ike’s Orders of the Day told the force, “The eyes of the world are upon you.”  More True Facts   Dramatic Original Footage of D-Day Invasion (News Reel Video)
