According to SI.com, Normand made it through the first few lines of the national anthem, but botched the line, “twilight’s last gleaming” with “twilight’s first gleaming.”

Mrs. Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative is now calling for museums, zoos, gardens, science and technology centers to “join the call to action,” to decrease obesity among children.

The newspaper said that the exceptionally high level of taxation was due to a one-off levy last year on 2011 incomes for households with assets of more than 1.3 million euros ($1.67 million).

The attack occurred near Kfar Qara, south of Haifa, Ynetnews.com reported.

The hiker, a 56-year-old man, was conscious and was able to call for help on his cellphone.

Paramedics treated the hiker at the scene and he was then transported to the Hillel Yaffa Hospital in Hadeera.

Shane Rattenbury said he was out running in a suburb of the capital Canberra when he suddenly came up against an eastern grey kangaroo grazing on a front lawn.

“We both got a nasty fright, and of course when kangaroos are startled, they lash out,” the 41-year-old said.

“As the kangaroo sought to escape, it landed on me, and its claws dug into my leg.”

Mr Rattenbury tweeted his encounter along with a picture of his bloodied legs, saying: “Mugged by a kangaroo! And this was in the suburbs, had not even got to the nature park!”  Full Article

US Airways spokesman Davien Anderson tells The Associated Press that a turboprop plane that left Philadelphia shortly before 11 p.m. Friday landed safely at Newark with its landing gear retracted at about 1 a.m. Saturday.

Anderson said the flight, being operated by Piedmont Airlines, was carrying  31 passengers and three crew members.  Full Article

Sadly, most Americans may not even realize that Armed  Forces Day is even a legitimate holiday.

Armed Forces Day was established to be celebrated on the third Saturday in May.

It started during Harry Truman’s administration when he led an effort to consolidate the various holidays supporting each separate branch of the military  into a simple unified holiday to honor the four branches together.

The actual  initiation of this day occurred on August 31, 1949, when Truman’s Secretary of  State announced the establishment of a joint Armed Forces Day to take the place of the former tradition of having separate days to honor the men and women in  the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force.  Full Article

After years people sleeping on the lot, the man who owns the property who asked ABC station KTRK not to use his name, said that he had erected the tombstones nearly a year ago.

The stones are rejects from a local stonecutter.

Michael Watkins, 22, of Weiser, Idaho, in March pleaded guilty to attempted grand theft, a felony, and misdemeanor animal cruelty stemming from the break-in and beating death of the monkey at Zoo Boise in November.

The primate was one of the zoo’s two Patas monkeys, ground-dwelling animals from Africa that stand more than 2 feet tall and weigh about 35 pounds.

Watkins attempted to steal the monkey, which bit him, police said. Watkins then kicked and hit the animal, severely wounding it, according to police.

The monkey later died of blunt force trauma, zoo officials said.  Full Article

Officials at the LEO Zoological Conservation Center tell the Greenwich Time they had removed the only male anteater from the enclosure in August, long before the six-month gestation period for baby Archie would have begun.

They feared that male, Alf, would kill another baby in the pen.

Eugene, Oregon – Funeral Home director Wade Lind offers a unique service where he uses a bicycle to haul caskets.

An Oregon funeral home in offers natural burials where the ride to the person’s final resting place is on the back of a three-wheeled bicycle.

Sunset Hills Cemetery and Funeral Home director Wade Lind says he got the idea from bikers and designed the pedal-powered hearse himself.

It has an electric motor to give him a little help hauling the casket. Full Article

Last month, Bieber was forced to leave his pet capuchin monkey, OG Mally, at the Munich airport because he didn’t have the correct documentation to allow the pet in the country.

Bieber was given 30 days to come up with the papers, and he ultimately decided to give up the monkey.

However, it seems he didn’t tell that to the Munich animal shelter where Mally has been held since being taken away from Bieber.

The shelter is now billing Bieber for the cost of care for his monkey. Between general care, food and vet visits for OG Mally, Bieber’s bill is several thousand dollars, according to the Munich customs office.

Furthermore, the shelter is still waiting for a response regarding next actions for Mally.  Full Article

Fox 11 reports that Gerre Ninnemann initially saw the bear running after his  dog, Maddy, on Wednesday.

He then went outside the Silver Cliff cabin to summon  the 8-year-old yellow lab inside, but the bear chased and tackled Ninnemann,  biting and clawing at his back.

Ninnemann briefly escaped and ran to the corner of the cabin, but the bear  mauled him again.

Ninnemann’s wife, Marie, then found a shotgun in the cabin’s  basement, but she didn’t know how to load it properly.

She instead took the  weapon outside the struck the bear on its head, allowing her husband to escape. Full Article
