roadThe owner of a Chinese restaurant in Louisiana is facing possible jail time after a spotted fawn was found in a cooler inside the eatery, authorities said.

Somchanh Chanthapanya, 61, of Winnsboro, was cited for possession of a spotted fawn after a Franklin Parish sheriff’s deputy found the animal during a security check at the Golden Hen restaurant in Winnsboro.

“The deputy discovered an open door and proceeded inside to clear the building when he found a dead spotted fawn in the cooler,” the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said in a news release Wednesday.

State wildlife agents were dispatched and found Chanthapanya — the owner of the restaurant — later at his home, where he was butchering the fawn.

Chanthapanya told the agents he found the animal dead on the side of Highway 17 and took the roadkill to his restaurant, where he stored it in his cooler. Chanthapanya said he took the fawn to his house after learning that the deputy may have seen the dead animal in his cooler, wildlife officials said.

Possession of a spotted fawn is punishable by fines up to $750 and between 15 and 30 days in jail.

Chanthapanya could not be reached for comment early Thursday, but his wife told the Times-Picayune that he found the dead animal along the highway and didn’t realize taking it was illegal.

poolA driving lesson went off the deep end in Maryland when authorities say the car jumped a curb, crashed through a fence and landed in a swimming pool.

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesman Pete Piringer tells The Washington Post the driver and passenger were uninjured Saturday, albeit soaking wet. He says the occupants were a man and a woman in their 50s or 60s, but it’s unclear who was behind the wheel when the drive turned into a dive.

He says one was teaching the other to drive that afternoon.

The car landed in the North Creek Community Center Pool, which was closed for the season.

Piringer says the man and woman were standing poolside, having extricated themselves, by the time rescuers arrived.

wanderingUtility officials in New Orleans said 7,556 people were without power Monday due to a cat that wandered into a substation.

Entergy New Orleans said 7,556 customers lost power after a cat wandered into the substation about 8:30 a.m. and caused a flash by touching equipment.

The company said protective devices installed at substations make it unusual for a cat to find its way inside.

“When this happens, the animals, unfortunately, do not survive the high-voltage contact,” the company tweeted.

Man refused booze on flight to New Orleans punched cops, threatened to put worker ‘in a body bag’

bagWhen crew members refused to serve him a fourth drink on a flight to New Orleans, a Southwest Airlines passenger threatened to put one of them “in a body bag,” punched two policemen in the face after landing, and was shocked with stun guns before he was arrested, federal prosecutors said this week.

Joel Michael Bane, a martial arts trainer from New Jersey, pleaded guilty in New Orleans federal court Thursday to one count of interference with a flight crew.

The flight attendants told Bane they couldn’t serve any more booze so late in the flight, and one of them told him to sit down. But he grew angry, refused to sit and asked what the flight attendants would do about it, according to the summary.

One of the attendants reported the commotion to the plane’s pilot, who announced over the intercom that all passengers should sit down if they didn’t want “security to greet you when we land.”

“We’ll handle any customer issues that you may have when we land,” the pilot said. “Please take your seats now for safety. Thank you.”

Bane, prosecutors said, shot back, “That captain has no authority over me.” He continued refusing to sit, with at least one passenger recording video of him with a cellphone. That clip showed several people walking up to Bane in apparently fruitless  attempts to calm him.

Bane told one of the attendants that he was a veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan. He then said “the flight crew, including the captain, would be nothing for (him) to handle” and that he would put one of the attendants “in a body bag.”

After landing, a Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office deputy and a levee district policeman boarded the plane. But he ignored Levee Police Captain Vincent Yetta’s commands to disembark, yelling, “Move me!”

Yetta unsuccessfully tried to push Bane toward the door. Instead, Bane, who the court documents note is “large and very muscular,” pushed Yetta into a corner and then punched both him and Sheriff’s Office Deputy Carl Cade.

Other law enforcement officers rushed aboard. He shouted profanities and refused commands to get on the floor or put his hands behind his back, prosecutors said.

Officers finally shocked Bane with stun guns to arrest him.

Creepy goat wanders the streets, terrifying people of Inver Grove Heights

goatYesterday, WCCO reported numerous sightings of a sizeable white goat — unaccompanied, but not particularly alarmed, by the looks of it — picking its way through construction sites and peering into windows with its creepy sideways goat pupils.

Police do not know where the goat came from, or where it currently is, or, presumably, why its stare sees straight into your soul.

Commander Joshua Otis says the goat is still at large, making it that much more likely that it will find you alone and unprotected and drag you to hell.

“It’s a very elusive animal,” he says.

As always, commenters on the police department’s Facebook page have been eager to speculate where the hooved beast came from.

Some theorize it’s one of those buckthorn-eating St. Paul goats, escaped from its post, O Brother, Where Art Thou?-style.

Others literally insist it belongs to the Church of Satan and that it must be returned as soon as possible.

KYTV reports that the newspaper’s launch was announced Wednesday, just days after GateHouse Media said it was shuttering Pulaski County’s local paper, the Daily Guide.

The new publication’s editor, Natalie Sanders, led the Daily Guide before leaving in June to start what she calls a “fun” paper that will include local news and promote the tourist town of Uranus, which is pronounced the way any self-respecting class clown would say it.

mayorAn Ohio town is mourning the death of its first female mayor — a border collie named Lucy Lou.

Bobbi Layne Kayser announced in a Facebook post that Lucy Lou, the dog who served as mayor of Rabbit Hash from 2008 until 2016, died Monday at the age of 12.

Lucy Lou, who retired Nov. 8, 2016, was the third dog mayor of Rabbit Hash, the first female mayor of the town and the first mayor to not die in office.

“She was an astounding canine who brought joy to many more people than just her immediate family. I’m so proud to have known her and shared these short years on earth with her. Run free and easy, sweet girl. Momma loves you,” Kayser wrote.

Lucy Lou’s primary duties included attending charity events and serving as spokesdog for the local women’s shelter. She also appeared on CBS Sunday Morning and shows as far away as Japan.

The canine ran for president in 2016 as a write-in candidate.

waveA Pennsylvania couple taking their wedding photos on a Hawaiian beach ended up soaked by a huge wave and the moment was caught on video.

Jayden Barrientos said he was visiting the China Walls, located east of Honolulu, when he noticed the brides having their wedding photos taken in white gowns on a nearby cliff.

“I thought, ‘Okay, that’s a bad place to stand; the waves are going to hit them,’” Barrientos told NBC Philadelphia.

Barrientos captured video of the moment the newlyweds, Kirea Lovell and Jenny McCauley of Montgomery County, Pa., were soaked by the huge wave.

“There were like three waves before the big one — you can see them in the video — and I was like, ‘Oh, this giant wave is going to crash on the rocks right where they’re standing,” Barrientos said.

McCauley and Lovell said the wave took them completely by surprise.
