jacobsA Pennsylvania woman who repeatedly bludgeoned her mother with a frying pan and hammer because she “just wanted peace and quiet” pleaded guilty Thursday after the prosecutor agreed to drop attempted murder charges.

Kimberly A. Jacobs, 47, called Northern York County police Sept. 5 after she hit her mother, Lenore Jacobs, in the head up to 20 times with a pan followed by a 4-pound hammer but still failed to kill her, The Patriot-News reported.

The elder Jacobs, in her daughter’s care for several years, was bleeding heavily and suffered skull fractures when police arrived.

“My daughter was trying to kill me because I was crying,” the elder Jacobs told police, according to The Patriot-News. “She just kept hitting me.”

Jacobs confessed she planned to kill her mother, father — who was asleep — and then herself.  More

Obit Bob SimonCBS newsman Bob Simon’s black-car driver was a rookie with nine license suspensions who is suspected of speeding during the fatal crash — and had just one hand on the wheel because he had a “dead” left arm from a suicide attempt, sources said Thursday.

Investigators believe Abdul Reshad Fedahi, a 44-year-old Afghan immigrant who lives in a homeless shelter, mistakenly hit the gas instead of the brake after sideswiping a car on the West Side Highway at about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, law-enforcement sources said.

“He hit the gas pedal instead of the brake. He sped up after hitting the car,” a law-enforcement source told The Post.

Simons, a “60 Minutes’’ correspondent and legendary war reporter, was sitting in the rear seat without his seat belt, sources said. He suffered a broken neck and severe stomach and head trauma.  More

OutramUK – A woman killed herself on her 30th birthday after being filmed shoplifting for a “caught on camera” television show, an inquest heard.

Friends tried in vain to save Elizabeth Outram when they found her hanging unconscious at her home in Hackney after a night out to celebrate her birthday at the Shard last September.

Poplar coroners’ court heard how Miss Outram had suffered from depression, anxiety and panic attacks since 2007 but her condition had stabilised by last summer when she went to a friend’s hen party in Brighton.

Unable to afford a leather jacket for the rock-themed night, she switched price tags in a TK Maxx store but was detained at the till and subsequently charged with fraud. The incident was captured by a TV production company who were filming in the shop for a reality show.  More

More than 5,600 complaints over snow removal have been filed in the city about people who have not done their due diligence when it comes to shoveling.

There are complaints about neighbors, businesses and even the city for leaving roads and sidewalks snow-covered.

dog hospitalCEDAR RAPIDS - Nancy Franck and her two miniature schnauzers, Sissy and Barney, live in southeast Cedar Rapids. Franck, however, has been staying 15 to 20 blocks away at Mercy Medical Center following a surgery.

She’s been in the hospital for about two weeks.

Last Saturday Nancy’s husband, Dale, was devastated when Sissy unexpectedly ran away from home

“We looked up and there was this dog just that was just running across the lobby,” said Mercy Security Officer Samantha Conrad.

It’s a surprise visitor no one expected: a dog in a hospital. Security cameras caught it all. Just like anybody would, Sissy wondered through two automatic doors and strolls right into Mercy Medical Center.  More

MariaCINCINNATI – An Ohio teacher with a phobia of young children lost an appeal accusing her former district of failing to accommodate her disability.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the 6th Circuit in Cincinnati rejected the appeal from Maria Waltherr-Willard, 63, who had accused the Mariemont district of age discrimination and a violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Waltherr-Willard, a French and Spanish teacher, alleged the district knew she suffered from pedophobia, a fear of small children, when she was transferred in 2009 from Mariemont High School to the district’s middle school.  More
