Nutty News El Paso, Texas – Mexican federal police momentarily crossed the Rio Grande into the United States in an incursion under investigation by both countries. The incursion occurred east of the Zaragoza Bridge while three hunters were on the U.S. side on the first day of dove season. A relative of the hunters told the station that gunmen in Mexico fired at the hunters and that the gunmen crossed the border and stole their chairs. Border Patrol spokesman Doug Mosier said border agents and Texas Parks and Wildlife officers responded immediately. There were no reported injuries. Agents arriving at the scene saw Mexican federal police crossing the river back into Mexico after they had been on the U.S. side, Mosier said. Nutty News West Babylon, New York – A Long Island school bus driver was called into his boss’ office expecting commendation. Instead, he said he was fired for helping three police officers stranded in a violent storm – and transporting them in his school bus. Daw snapped pictures as a near-monsoon moved through New Hyde Park. Traffic was stopped, cars were submerged and drivers panicked. George Daw finally freed his yellow SUV school bus – with his one single child passenger aboard – amid sudden cries for help from three Nassau County police detectives. “Do I leave these three police officers, due to company policy?” Daw said. “I didn’t even second guess it. I told the child to jump in the back, these people are coming on board. I had to get them.” Daw rescued and transported the police officers – their unmarked patrol car was a total loss. More

Nutty News of the World: Toronto, Canada – Police kicked down the door of a North Toronto apartment after a caller warned them about a possible murder taking place inside. But all they found was a guy wearing noise-cancelling headphones who had the misfortune to be working from home that day. “I didn’t hear them knocking or banging on the door saying: ‘Please open up,’” said software consultant Jason Myles. The first thing I heard was when they attempted to kick down the door.” The headphones drowned out the initial commotion and by the time Myles heard the kicks, it was too late for the door. Myles believes he was a victim of something called “swatting,” a prank in which a caller reports a fake emergency with the intent of getting police to mobilize a SWAT team. More

Nutty News Newport Beach, California – It pays well to wash your motorcycle if you are a cop in Newport Beach, where officers who patrol on motor bikes are paid an additional six hours of overtime every month simply for giving their cycles a wash. The special compensation equates to, on average, about a 5 percent pay hike for motorcycle officers, or about $5,600 a year in additional monies. As alarming as that may seem, this is only one example of special pay that inflates salaries and is often hidden from public view because of the stealth nature of negotiations.
